Given the right incentives, the private sector can provide effective and sustainable investment, unique expertise, and innovation at a greater scale to help in the fight against hunger. The potential opportunities for the private sector to enhance food security, however, are often not fully harnessed. This brief outlines examines (1) existing private sector development models, (2) exemplary initiatives and public–private partnerships that can serve as guides of best practices, and (3) actions necessary to enhance private sector involvement in food security.
