Progress to achieve EU commitments on stunting

It was a great pleasure to welcome Nevin Mimica, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development at the European Commission (EC) and Compact2025 Leadership Council member, to IFPRI headquarters in mid-October.

The world continues to make progress in reducing child stunting. However, to accelerate progress to end hunger and undernutrition in all its forms by 2025—the goal of the initiative Compact2025—more must be done. Toward this end, it is encouraging that the European Commission has pledged to further reduce the number of children stunted by 7 million by the year 2025.

We at IFPRI look forward to continue working together with the EC to end hunger and undernutrition by supporting EU-led initiatives such as the National Information Platforms on Nutrition (NIPN) and EU-supported initiatives such as the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health. Compact2025 is offering technical support to NIPN in Ethiopia—a Compact2025’s focal country.  We look forward to working with the EC in more countries to provide technical support. Through Compact2025, we support countries, partners, and initiatives with data and knowledge to rapidly reduce hunger and child stunting and other forms of malnutrition around the world.
